The Christmas Light Show Design and Christmas Light Installation Process
Designing, programming, installing, maintaining and storing a computer controlled Christmas light show display is a more time consuming and complicated process than most people realize. The items below represent a summary of the steps that are required in order to get your light show up and running.
- We start booking light shows in March of each year and only install 40 displays per metro area per season. We limit the number of installations so that the market for animated displays remains exclusive and continues to create marketing value for our business customers. So book your spot early as we tend to sell out by early summer.
- We will conduct a site survey and create an estimate based on our initial discovery and on your input.
- We require a 50% deposit to reserve your spot. The remaining 50% is due at the completion of installation and testing.
- Once we've got your project on the schedule we will review photos, floor plans, electrical drawings and landscape details of your property and begin formulating a design based on these details and on your input, goals and requirements.
- Once the project plan has been finalized, we work with you to select the song choices that your lights will be synchronized to. This is a very important step in the process - song selection determines 90% or more of the 'feel' or 'style' of your holiday display. Some songs work much better than others. All music requires approval by the publisher and often from the record company and/or the writer and/or performer.
- After we complete a project plan and a design that you are in favor of, we will provide a final project quote. The final quote may or may not be similar to your initial estimate depending on how closely the final project plan matches the scope of the original estimate.
- Our summer is spent designing and building musical sequences, working with vendors to secure all necessary hardware, lighting, supplies and special effects and working with music publishers to gain approval to use the songs that will be included in your light show.
- Installations begin in September and are completed by Thanksgiving.
- Most of our customers fire up their light displays publicly for the first time on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
- It is very rare that anything goes wrong during the season, but we offer maintenance agreements as an option or you can choose to utilize our services on a per incident basis. 99.99% of problems can be fixed within a few hours of the time service is requested.
- If your display is outdoors and utilizes ground effects (i.e. strings of lights that lay directly on the ground) you should be aware that rain will always trip a GFCI and render portions of your light show unusable until the lights dry out. This is what GFCI circuits are supposed to do - keep everyone safe. We recommend that you do not run your light show during rain or for 24 hours after a rainfall. If you do so, you do so at your own risk. We are not responsible for outages that occur if you run your show during the rain. Service charges will apply if we need to perform a service call due to a rain outage. Rain outages are not covered by our standard seasonal maintenance agreement.
- We will return to your property beginning in early January (specific take down appointments are scheduled at the same time we schedule your installation) to remove your display.
